About the Department:

Our department offers UG and PG courses. The Department of English sprouted its root in the year 2010 with 70 students. The department of English introduced its post graduate programme in 2013, with an approved intake of 40 students. English offers students an excellent gathering space to develop the language and literature. The English department empowers students to strengthening their communication skills and ability to analyze all forms of literary expression. The contemporary curriculum includes World Literature, Children Literature, British Literature, American Literature, Film Studies, English Language Teaching, Science Fiction which helps students to expose to different literary styles and the impact of language and literature in different media.

The department is committed to promoting academic excellence through innovative teaching methodologies, learner-centred practices, and continuous assessment. Our dedicated and experienced faculty members inspire students to develop critical thinking, effective communication skills, creativity, and a deep appreciation for literature and language. The curriculum is designed to meet the changing needs of society by integrating literary studies, language learning, communication skills, and emerging interdisciplinary perspectives.

Since its inception, the Department has earned a reputation for producing outstanding academic results. The department has proudly produced 11 University Rank Holders, reflecting its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the dedication of both faculty and students in maintaining high academic standards.

The Department also focuses on enhancing students' employability through career-oriented training programmes, communication skill development, personality enhancement sessions, aptitude training, and interview preparation. As a result, many of our students have secured placements in reputed organizations. Graduates from the Department have been placed in more than three leading companies and are serving in high-quality professional positions, showcasing the department's commitment to preparing students for successful careers. To enrich the learning experience, the department regularly organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, literary association activities, conferences, webinars, and extension programmes. These activities expose students to contemporary developments in literature, language, research, and communication, while encouraging intellectual curiosity, leadership qualities, and lifelong learning.

The department actively encourages students to participate in paper presentations, literary competitions, cultural events, outreach activities, and research-oriented programmes. The Department is equipped with a well-stocked library containing a rich collection of literary classics, contemporary works, reference books, journals, and digital learning resources. Students are encouraged to make effective use of these facilities to strengthen their academic knowledge and research capabilities.

Eligibility:

Candidate must have passed 12th standard in State Board/ CBSE in any discipline, recognized by the Educational Board of Tamil Nadu or any other state.
